Gateway Pro Purchased
MPC Corporation acquires Gateway Inc.'s Professional business division
On October 1st, 2007, MPC Corporation closed a deal acquiring Gateway Inc.'s Professional division. The combined revenue of the two companies would have been $1.2 billion in 2006, making MPC Computers one of the top PC companies in the US focusing on the business, education, and government markets. The deal offers MPC larger economies of scale, a more diversified customer portfolio, and ownership over Gateway Pro's newly revamped product line along with use of the Gateway name for 1 year. MPC also gained Gateway's sales and services employees along with operating facilities in North Sioux City, SD and Nashville, TN, further strengthening MPC's US-based service and support offerings.
Payment for the transaction consisted of MPC assuming warranty and other obligations while Gateway received a promissory note for approximately $6 million along with a 19.9% equity interest in the company. Gateway's consumer division was purchased by Acer Inc., now the 3rd largest PC vendor in the world, just prior to the transaction with MPC. While both deals enable Gateway to better focus on their core market of consumers, MPC Computers will be far better suited to succeed in the business and government sectors, offering many new benefits for customers.
MPC is currently in a transition period expected to last until late this month. Gateway Pro's former products, warranty fulfillments, and services are currently being offered through a special MPC Website until the transition is complete.

Healthy Relationship
MPC Computers is a good fit for Children's Hospital Boston
Hospitals are among the most space-constrained computing environments and Children's Hospital Boston is no exception. That's why Gary Smith, the hospital's hardware supervisor, made the decision to standardize on MPC's space-saving ClientPro® 424 All-in-One™ desktop PC. With desktop and monitor fitting into the size of a standard LCD display, MPC's flexible and powerful All-in-One PC is perfect for Children's Hospital Boston. "The All-in-One PC actually helps us with infection control," Smith explains. "With fewer separate parts, we have less equipment to keep clean and free of dust and bacteria." And not only are they happy with the quality of MPC's hardware, but they are very pleased with the level of service and support they receive too.

Beware Malware
Well it's 2008 and despite doomsday predictions, the world has yet to be sent back to the 18th century by a computer virus. Conversely, IT departments have yet to create an impenetrable defense. Malicious attacks are continuing to get more sophisticated, and despite attempts to bolster security and increase protection, malware is still causing enterprises very real damage. Yet there is hope for having a secure enterprise, particularly when it comes to a multi-layered approach to network protection.

Winning the Battle Against Malware
It's officially 2008 and despite hacker's attempts, the government has yet to be shut down by malicious attacks. Conversely, no department has created an impenetrable defense either. Yet there is hope for security, particularly when it comes to a multi-layered approach to network protection.
